I would like to request a feature, not a must, but a nice to have

Hi all, I am a new owner/user of WiSpy and Chanalyzer. Still learning how to read and use the system.... Im getting better every day with "lab" tests. (For any newbi, I suggest that you play with known tests to hep get a feel of the whole system and how known devices show up.)

I love the WiFi scan feature and the ability to plot those over the scanned data. I would like an option (a checkbox) to auto add a channel when "in-range" (ie: when the WiFi Scanner gets a signal), then auto remove it when the signal is lost.

This would help with a walk-around scan. At the moment I keep monitoring and searching through the list.

A quick question while I'm here...
Is there any work getting done to try to "auto" id signals ? Even something that shows a list of devices that kinda match.

And my last Q.... is there a way to add patterns/signatures to the ID List. (Just point me to the docs if I've missed it.

I thought it would be nice to be able add my own signatures.

Thanks for you time and efforts.

Hi and Welcome to the MetaGeek community!

Thank you for the great suggestions!  We will definitely take them into consideration.  Especially the option to drop inactive Access Points out of range.  Right now we just assume the person doing the spectrum analysis would stay in one location, meaning each access point listed would be active.  The newest version of Chanalyzer has a select all checkbox.

If you are moving around, to do a site survey, I recommend locking the time, for a five minute window (click the lock icon).  Then move to another spot, add a note describing the new area, wait five minutes, then move to the next location.

The five minutes while you wait will give Chanalyzer enough time to define the types of signals you are seeing, and these will change at each location.  Moving constantly with Chanalyzer will be less advantageous.

Currently Chanalyzer does not automatically identify devices and their signatures.

I agree that a good screencast would be beneficial.  I've been meaning to do one for a long time now.  Here is a link to a video that I did a while ago.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEfkRjnWkBE&fmt=18

If you have any signatures you would like to add, send me a recording of the device, and I will be more than happy to add it to Chanalyzer.  I know we all wish to add our own signatures, but the way we do it now is a very manual process.  So send me your recordings of any new and cool devices not in the list!
