SpecTools in Ubuntu 7.10 (EEE PC)

EEE PC Spectools

I successfully installed SpecTools on the Asus EeePc. However I am not running the default Xandros that the eee came with, the setup may be a little different. I will try and get instructions on how to install it on the original OS later.

If you have Hardy Heron Ubuntu 8.04, install using synaptic!

Dependencies:

  • libatk1.0-0
    (>= 1.20.0)
    The ATK accessibility toolkit
  • dep:
    libc6
    (>= 2.7-1)
    GNU C Library: Shared libraries
    also a virtual package provided by
    libc6-udeb
  • dep:
    libcairo2
    (>= 1.5.0)
    The Cairo 2D vector graphics library
  • dep:
    libglib2.0-0
    (>= 2.15.2)
    The GLib library of C routines
  • dep:
    libgtk2.0-0
    (>= 2.12.0)
    The GTK+ graphical user interface library
  • dep:
    libpango1.0-0
    (>= 1.19.2)
    Layout and rendering of internationalized text
  • dep:
    libusb-0.1-4
    (>= 2:0.1.12)
    userspace USB programming library

First I downloaded the package and extracted it to my desktop. Then opened up terminal and typed:

cd spectools-2007-10-R2

./configure

make

sudo cp 99-wispy.rules /etc/udev/rules.d

Then I moved spectools-2007-10-R2 folder to another location. Then to create a shortcut in my menu I went to System > Preferences > Main Menu. From their I chose the category I wanted, I put it in System Tools and clicked "New Item"

Give the item a Name "SpecTools" and then the command will be the location you chose (your/location/spectools-2007-10-R2/spectool_gtk). Click Close, and you should be done!

Note: One thing that prevented me from installing it previously was that I was trying to compile it through the GUI first, and then I was unable to do it through terminal.

Note:  Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron will have SpecTools built in!  Install using Synaptic!

I have successfully installed SpecTools from Synaptic in Ubuntu 8.04.  This is a great step for Spectools and Wi-Spy
